Riverside Pavilion

A failing institutional envelope replaced and a new glazed atrium inserted, on a building that never closed.

Riverside Pavilion, completed

The brief

Spalling brick, fogged sealed units and a dark central circulation core. The client wanted a warm, daylit arrival and an envelope that would last another forty years.

The challenge

  • The building operated seven days a week throughout.
  • Overhead protection required at every public entrance for the full envelope programme.
  • Glass units up to 4.2 m had to be craned over an active pedestrian route.

What we did

Brickwork was cut out and rebuilt in bays with new stainless ties and a continuous air barrier behind. The new atrium was framed and glazed under a protected deck, with every oversized lift booked into a Sunday morning possession and a marshalled exclusion zone.
